Liudmila Veselova is a Senior Lecturer at the European Studies Department, School of International Relations, St. Petersburg State University, performing as a lecturer and researcher.

 

Prof. Veselova has been studying and conducting research in several foreign universities: 2013-2014, Free University of Berlin, Germany; 2010-2011, University of Turku, Finland; and 2007-2008, Wuhan Normal University, China.

 

Prof. Veselova is an author of several publications in Russian and English languages, including publications in journals indexed in Web of Science. Her scientific interests include: history of China; informal relation in China; Chinese middle class; talent management. Her PhD dissertation is titled The Role of Informal Institutions (Guanxi) in Political, Social and Economic Life of the PRC.

讲座简介：

17 years have passed, since the time of Boris Yeltsin's resignation as a president of the Russian Federation. During this time, Russia has passed a long and difficult journey from a country with a huge external debt and a large number of serious internal social problems to a country that has become one of the most influential participants in world governance, has managed to overcome terrorism inside the country and significantly weaken a social tension.

 

At the beginning of 2000s the State formulated four priority tasks, which included:

• to fight poverty

• to protect the market from illegal intrusion, both official and criminal

• to revive the personal dignity of citizens in the name of the country's high national dignity

• to build foreign policy based on the national interests of the country

 

This lecture will present a discourse into the processes that took place in the social life of Russia during the last 17 years. It will provide an overview and analysis of former and current states of such important areas as demography, healthcare, education and science, among others. It will also touches upon specific solutions in social field developed by Russian authorities to overcome challenges caused by institutional and economic volatility.
